Paper Bag Waists…. Yay or Nay?

One of the styles that has been around for the last couple years are the high waist or Paper Bag Waist pants. So what are they? They are a loose fitting pair of pants that are clenched at the waist usually with a tie belt to make the waist line look ruched, or gathered. The best type of body style to wear this fashion style is a pear shape because it enhances the waist and with the wider hips, makes it appear to look smaller.

Well guess what? I am an apple shape! My waist is one of my greatest flaws as far as I am concerned. I usually hide it and work hard not to draw attention to it. So I tend to stay with the looser fitting styles. Well, my daughter-in-law gave me these pants and knowing it would not be the best style for me, I decided to try to make it work. To do that I added a hat to draw the eyes away from the waist and a pop of color with the shoes to draw you eyes downward.

While this is not my favorite style, I do like what I accomplished and felt comfortable enough wearing them. Had this pair not been given to me, I would have never tried to wear this look. But… stepping out of my box can be fun at times.

If you look online or in stores, this style is available everywhere. You can find the Paper Bag Waist in pants, shorts and even skirts. It probably will continue to be in style for future seasons because many young people embrace the look.

As for me… unless I can take two inches off this waist at least, this will be something I will leave for the young people.

But I encourage you to give them a try. You might be surprised at how much you like the look. After all, it is about having fun with changing up your style.
