One of the popular styles for Spring remains the classic Capri pants in women’s fashion. At first I was hesitant about buying my first pair, several years ago because I did not really want to invest in something trendy and probably would not be popular for the next year. Well, silly me! Not only was I wrong on that but I was also wrong in not knowing the history.

Capri pants have been around for a while now. According to Wikipedia, Capri pants were introduced by fashion designer Sonja de Lennart in 1948. The name comes from the Italian Isle of Capri where they were popular in the the 1950’s and 1960’s. They really became popular here in the U.S. where Mary Tyler Moore, often wore them while portraying Laura Petrie on the Dick Van Dyke Show. Popularity dropped in the 1970’s through the 1980’s but have now showed a comeback that seems to be here to stay for awhile.

Other names for the Capris are clam-diggers, flood pants, high waters, three quarter legs, just to name a few.

At this point, I now own at least 6 pair and counting. I find them to be quite comfortable and so easy to dress up or dress down. It all depends on your accessories you choose to add.

Finding these favorites is so easy to do, whether it be in the stores or online. And they can be so reasonably cheap, especially since I love to keep my purchases, as you know, at $25 and under.
