Swing Coat… Box Coat…. Half Coat…Princess Coat. These are all names of this popular style of coat that has been around since the 1940’s. It started out as a slimmer coat but became fuller in the 1950’s, thus getting the name swing coat. It often had wide lapels, large buttons and fell around the hips. It also could be full length, if preferred. This vintage coat was widely worn throughout the 1950’s and was popular with most. In today’s world, we look at it as more a vintage look. However it is popping up in today’s fashion trends and can be found throughout the internet world of shopping.
I have had this modified swing coat for a while now and have consistently worn it since I got it. It is timeless and stylish and is my “go to” coat for so many occasions, whether they be dressy or casual.
Some version of Swing coats can be bought online from Amazon, Etsy, Ebay, Target, Macey’s, etc. The cheapest price I found was in the $30-$40 range which is a bit over my $25 and under goal, but certainly within the upper limits that I am willing to go.
I like dressing it up with my forever favorite scarves to change up the look. But often, I just wear it as is, since it makes a statement in and of itself.
For me, it don’t mean a thing if it don’t have that swing!
Nice Coat. I enjoy reading your blog. I believe the scarf stole the show in this one, It’s BEAUTIFUL! :))
