Peplum is defined simply as an overskirt or a ruffled fabric attached to the bottom hem of a top or jacket, and even the waist of a dress. The Peplum style has been around for quite a while, dating back to Ancient Greece around 500 BC. It had a resurgence in fashion in the 1940’s, 1980’s and now again since 2012. And it is still going strong.
There is style variance with peplum. Some wearers go for the subtle ruffles while others prefer the wide and over emphasized, clinched waist look. But whatever your preference, there are many styles out there to choose from.
This is my first venture with a peplum top and I have to admit I really like it, so I am definitely going to keep my eye open for more choices. Maybe a peplum style dress for the holidays might be a consideration.
I found this top for only a little over $10 on Amazon. I figured if I wasn’t totally sold on this look on me, a $10 investment would be acceptable to absorb or maybe just return it. But I really liked it. I found it comfortable and to me, quite flattering.
So…. Peplum, I have found a new friend. Look forward to seeing more of you!
