I absolutely love the “staying power” of pleats. It is one of those fashion trends that have been around seemingly forever and still remains a stable part of our wardrobe today. According to Wikipedia, a pleat is a type of fold formed by doubling fabric back upon itself and securing it in place and usually heat set into a sharp crease. It also identifies 13 different types of pleats.
Pleating goes back to the ancient Egyptians who considered pleating worthy of royal kings and queens. In 1909, Spanish designer Mariano Fortuny brought it to women’s fashion where it exploded throughout Europe. And let’s just say, “the rest is history”. This fabric consistently shows up in seasonal fashion for all ages.
I found this midi pleated skirt from H&M, while browsing on the internet . At the time I ordered it, it was under $20, but now see it listed at $22. To try to tell you how much I love this skirt would be an understatement! I love the length! I love the swing! I love the color! And I love the lightness of the polyester fabric which is almost like chiffon.
I plan on keeping this one in my closet for quite a while because it is a classic.
